3 Sly Tricks Marketers Use To Get You To Buy

First, let me start by saying, advertising literally makes the world go 'round. Without legitimate competition, all of the biggest businesses and companies would monopolize their industries, leading to...well I think we all know how that goes down. SO, every time you hear one of those "annoying" commercials, or your eyes are bothered by that magazine ad you have to flip over, you should be happy that we live in a place where we have the ability to grow our businesses through advertising and marketing.

That being said, the advertising industry itself includes businesses that need to turn a profit to survive.  And the better they can make someone else's business successful, the more successful and credible they can be.

Advertisers not only specialize in making businesses money, they also specialize in knowing what will make you make that purchase that you're iffy about.

So here are a couple of the (not so) dirty little secrets advertisers use to help us make those purchasing decisions:

1. The old saying "sex sells" actually turns out to be very true, and very prevalent today. If an ad can give people the feeling that using their product will enhance their chances to have sex, people want that product. Although sometimes the techniques are very subtle, they have an incredible affect our brains. Image result for sex sells advertisements

2. The refund-guaranteed technique: This implies that no matter what the customer does, they cant lose. A guarantee suggests that a product is of high quality when it's not. This tactic is classicly used because it works. And, companies make it so difficult for customers to get their money back anyway, so few even try. It looks like a win-win for the customer, but when you see this, just think of it as a win-win for the company, because you're not getting your money back.

3. Anthropomorphism: This is when ads give products human(or animal)characteristics in effort to make an emotional connection or bond to the consumer. This technique is very successful because it helps people form an emotional tie to the product.

So, how can you avoid falling for these little tricks? You can find out in my next blog post.

Why Apple is the most successful company in history

Apple recently reported $74.6 billion in revenue and an incredible $18 billion in profits in just one quarter, which tops the charts as having the largest quarterly earnings of a single company, ever.
Due to their incredible design and innovative technology, Apple has become one of the world's most recognized brands. Apple uses their universal apple logo which is recognizable by people no matter what language they speak or what country they live in. The simplistic design style goes beyond just the logo, but expands into their actual technology, and the consistency in Apple’s all around personality has helped to form their strong brand identity.

Apple is also famous for their rivalries, the two biggest being Microsoft and Google. This competition gained them a ton of attention in the early ‘90s, when Microsoft basically owned the industry. Under Steve Jobs, Apple took the attention of rivalry and thrived, eventually making its way to the top of the market by the early 2000’s.

Another huge, and I think, most important factor is that Apple reinforced and reinvigorated the Apple brand personality with each new product. Beginning in 2001, with the creation of the iPod, then in 2007 the iPhone, and then the iPad, and the list goes on. The point is, they keep consumers interested by consistently creating new products, and they keep consumers happy by creating innovative and user-friendly technology.

Top brands of the 21st century: Google

When thinking about influential companies, there is probably not one as colossal and influential in our generation as Google. Google has expanded into virtually every aspect of technology and is constantly on the cutting edge of everything web-based. Google began as a research project for two Ph.D. students at Stanford University, Larry Page and Sergey Brin. I doubt if these men could have known what their idea would turn into, but it has grown into one of the most powerful, iconic companies in the world. Rated one of the best places to work in the world, and generously paying their employees, Google attracts the best and brightest workers from across the globe. Everyone can instantly recognize the red, blue, green, and yellow of this giant brand and those colors are portrayed throughout the icons and symbols of their various products and tools.

Google is so large and ingrained into our culture that the word google itself has evolved into a verb of sorts. Hearing someone say, “Google it,” is incredibly commonplace in households, universities, and workplaces all across the nation. There have been many search engines over the years, but no brand has grown into giant that Google has become.
